What to Expect
Once you have applied for SoonerCare (Oklahoma Medicaid), a social worker at OKDHS will review your application and send you a notice telling you if you qualify within 30 days (60 days if a disability needs to be certified). If you are pregnant, or are a child, you will receive notification within 20 days.
If your qualification is confirmed
You qualify for SoonerCare services the day after your OKDHS social worker sends us your information. If your qualification is confirmed, you will be given a recipient identification (RID) number. Please keep it handy as your provider may want to know your RID to check your qualification.
You will also receive a white Oklahoma Health Care Authority medical identification card in the mail. You will use this card as long as you qualify for SoonerCare benefits.

How to Access Services
The SoonerCare program has two distinct parts: a primary care case management program called SoonerCare Choice and a fee-for-service arrangement called SoonerCare Traditional. Both programs provide the same basic benefits.
If you are approved for SoonerCare Choice, you will receive a letter in the mail with the name and address of your PCP/CM around the time your coverage starts. If you do not pick a PCP/CM, SoonerCare will choose one for you.
If you are eligible for SoonerCare Traditional, you may choose any contracted SoonerCare provider. Please ask if the provider accepts the SoonerCare card before scheduling an appointment.
